This experiment was conducted among recent graduates of Rochester University. It tests the effect of achieving the "American Dream" opposed to achieving personal goals on physical well-being. The researchers followed reports of illnesses and happpiness rates of the graduates and one of them, chose one of the many job offers that would put him near his family; the graduate Asher Persigian said, " Without people....to share your life with, I really don't see the point." The studies show that the students were psychologically well while they were succeeding in personal goals and almost had no psychological health affect when they were doing well in terms of the "American Dream". The success in the "American Dream" seemed to increase things such as anxiety in graduates lives. A survey was released upon the graduates to test levels of intrinsic/personal goals and extrinsic/American Dream goals. It also charted the psychological position of the person being surveyed. The study finally concludes that success in the American Dream has relatively zero effect on the person compared to that of a person who achieves many personal goals.

This experiment perked my interest because I have always wondered if I should become totally independant come time to be an adult, or to be still in touch with my parents. This stimulating experiment revealed to me that I should keep in touch with family and friends so that I can maintain a healthy psychological mindset.
